Catalogue Note

This sculptural work was the artist's response to a commission from the French military, in 1977, for a monument on the theme of aid to the wounded soldier, to be installed in central Paris.  However, the panel charged to review the commission rejected the work in a meeting in December of that year.
Five years later, during which period Ipousteguy's international reputation grew dramatically, the authorites reversed themselves and authorized the installation of the work on the base which had already been erected for it back in 1977.
