Catalogue Note

Leung Kui-ting is a veteran painter of the New Ink Painting Movement that first swept the art scene of Hong Kong and Taiwan in the 1960s and 1970s. Constantly venturing onto new grounds, some years ago Leung started to reflect on China’s age-old tradition of imitating old masters?styles.  This landscape on silk is partly made by transfer-printing fragments of reproductions of old masters, then developed and painted over in the artist’s own style and vision.  Washed to suggest age, the original mud-dyed silk is also bleached in patches to highlight a landscape composed of layers of historical reference and contemporary interpretation.
