Fusing traditional Chinese painting techniques and motifs with a scientific repertoire of concepts such as relativity and objective abstraction, Kan Kit-keung here delineates a whitewater scene taken from the Potomac River in Washington D.C. Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, Kan minimizes his hills and mountains, giving his landscape a new sense of order and rhythm reminiscent of modern architecture. By inserting a sense of lyricism into abstract geometries and logics, Kan's paintings re-examine the fundamental building blocks of nature.
