Catalogue Note

"The Reclining Men and His Departing Horse was created in early 1989 when China was facing immense challenges from social reform and opening. This work reflects my concerns and thoughts as an artist over the nation’s future and destiny. The reclining man symbolizes the status of awakening and reflection, the departing white horse suggests the out-reaching thoughts and vision, while the poles signify the milestones of the progress of our time and history."
