  • 15cm. 6in. diameter
4½-inch engraved silver dial with foliate centre calibrated I to XII and 13 to 24, the outer gilt rim with five minute and quarter hour marks set on a square plate with engraved flower corners, later hands, the movement signed Christoff Streibell within an engraved cartouche and later dated 1642, turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain for the going train, later lever escapement, engraved standing barrels for the strike and the quarters, pierced and engraved striking gates, the hammers with dolphin heads, the backplate mounted with  a numbered countwheel with filigree centre and further decorated with applied pierced and engraved gilt masks, the moulded square case with bronze female terms on the corners and glazed panels on each side within bronze frames, the underside with engraved border, inset with the two bells and raised on tall bun feet

Catalogue Note

Christoff Streibell was born in 1571 and became a Master Clockmaker on 27th February 1608; he worked in Augsburg and died in 1628. This clock is one of only two clocks known to exist by this maker, the other example is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna
