18.5-cm foliate engraved gilt brass dial, silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and subsidiaries for Chime/Silent and Chime on 8 bells/ Cambridge Chimes above, silvered plaque reading Presented to George A. Bassett, 3rd. February 1898, on his retirement from the post of Chief Inspector (6 Division) after 26 years service in the Metropolitan Police, substantial three train fusee and chain anchor movement with quarter chiming on eight bells and hour striking on a gong, moulded mahogany case with dome top surmounted by fine berry finals, glazed door flanked by fluted brass capped pilasters, carrying handles above foliate pierced frets to the sides, moulded plinth raised on scroll feet
