Description

  • Height 70cm
21-cm shaped brass dial, engraved chapter ring with Roman numerals, foliate pierced hands and engraved alarm disc, apertures for date, day, month, moonday and moonphase below in the painted classical battle scene, recessed signature plate signed I.ns Dù Chesne Amsterdam, five pillar fusee movement with verge escapement, rack Dutch half hour striking on two bells, pull wind alarm on the large bell, unusual waisted burr walnut case with bell top surmounted by five gilt finials, moulded corniche with carved ornament over foliate pierced frets, brass carrying handles above frets to the sides, glazed door with carved foliate scrolls and flowers, moulded plinth raised on claw and ball feet, the bottom with the label Int. Tentoonstelling van Oude Kunst, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 1936

Provenance

This clock was sold to the former owner at the 'International Exhibition of Old Art' held in the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum in 1936. Thereafter by descent to the present owners.
