Description
- Height 49.5cm
10.5-cm enamel dial with Roman numerals signed Ravrio bronzier à Paris and for the horloger Mesnil H., Breguet hands, movement with anchor escapement and countwheel striking on a bell, silk suspended pendulum, arched red marble case with an applied mount of Amor and Psyche, flanked by the finely cast and chiselled ormolu figure of Amor leaning against a sheet with Greek inscriptions, rectangular plinth with foliate mounts raised on bun feet
Catalogue Note
André-Antoine Ravrio lived from 1759 until 1814 and was a member of a famous 'bronzeur-doreur' family. He became master founder in 1777 and received many important commissions for among others the Duke of Artois, Garde Meuble, The Spanish Court and Louis Napoleon. He also provided bronzes for famous ebenistes like G. Jacob, J.G. Beneman and his uncle J.G. Riesener. Lit.
