Catalogue Note

Important Private Collection of Lang Jingshan (Lot 577-578)
Zhou Zhigang (B. 1923) was a founding member of the China Photographers Association established in 1956, now serves as the honorary director of the association. In 1950, Zhou Zhigang, together with Lang Jingshan, established the first ever advanced photography course in the history of Chinese photography. In 1991, Zhou Zhigang organized a sensational party in celebration of Lang Jiangshan's centenary birthday, with 200 guests from all over the world participated the event. In the same year, Zhou accompanied Lang Jingshan to visit his hometown, Lanxi in Zhejiang Province. Upon Lang's decease, Zhou succeeded as the director of the association. Lot 577, One Hundred Cranes, was a gift from Lang Jingshan to Zhou Zhigang at Lang's centenary birthday, as a token of appreciation from Zhou's half-a-century-long loyal and devoted friendship.
