Catalogue Note
According to Howard objects with these coats of arms were probably made for Adriaan Valckenier (1696-1751), who served in Batavia from 1715 to 1741, where he was latterly Governor-General, but left after the Massacre of the Chinese in the previous year, for which he was held in part responsible.
