Description

Of gold openwork design, applied with black and white piqué enamel, further  decorated with cushion-shaped rubies, each link anchored by a drop of three pearls, length 15 inches, signed C.& A.G. With original green leather gilt-embossed case signed C.& A. Giuliano.

The green and gold-tooled leather fitted case for this lot, made by Guichard, is illustrated by Geoffrey C. Munn, Castellani and Giuliano, Revivalist Jewellers of the 19th Century, pl. 173.

Catalogue Note

Giuliano employed the firms of C.J. Kitts, Wheeler and Oliver and Guichard as specialist case makers. Both firms at times signed their production, respectively with a small letter K and a small G near the hinge. Guichard cases are of consistent superior quality.
