Catalogue Note

Glen was the country estate of the Tennant family, whose daughters, Margot and Laura, grew up wild and uninhibited. The sisters, who were inseparable, entered London society together in 1881, formed the core of an Edwardian coterie of aristocratic intellectuals called "The Souls".  In 1894 Margot Tennant married Herbert Henry Asquith, introducing him to her vibrant social world. The couple lived in a large house in Cavendish Square until 1908 when Herbert Henry became Prime Minister. According to Geoffrey Munn, Margot Asquith was a regular patron of Giuliano's shop at 115 Piccadilly and was  remembered by Arthur Giuliano's nieces and employees for her unconventional behavior during her visits.
