The large bell with tapering squared body engraved on all four sides with characters translating to "I am submitted to the eyes," height 4¾ inches, London hallmarks for 1888, signed C.G.

Catalogue Note
This bell was copied from a prototype found on Mount Esquiline in Rome. It follows the series of bells issued by Castellani after the discovery of the original which had passed into the hands of Alessandro Castellani and was sold with his effects in 1884. See the footnote to the preceding lot.
