Catalogue Note

Thoughout his career William Callow lived for many years in Paris. During this time he conducted a series of long walking tours through France. He is known to have visited Mount Vacours, on the Siene in 1834 during which time he drew a number of watercolours, (see Christie's, 22 December 2003, lot 59). This watercolour would appear to be a finished work made three years after the 1834 visit.
