John 'Warwick' Smith 1749-1831

Throughout his career Warwick Smith made several tours of Wales. The present work dates from 1788 and was executed during his tour of the Hafod Estate in Cardiganshire, the seat of Thomas Jones M.P. Several of Warwick Smith's drawings from this period were used to illustrate Sir James Edward Smith's 1810 publication, A Tour to Hafod in Cardiganshire.  A similar view to this lot is depicted as plate number 10 in this publication.
