Catalogue Note

Between 1790 and 1817 Francia lived in London. Although, by 1828 he was based in Calais, letters reveal that he had sketched in Greenwich Park in 1826.

This finished watercolour was drawn two years later, while back in his studio in Calais. Greenwich was clearly an important subject for Francia, and there is a second similar work depicting the artist  sketching in Greenwich Park, sold in these Rooms on the 24th November 1977, lot 156.
