Catalogue Note

Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham was first published in 1908. Shepard illustrated the 38th edition in 1931 and it is from these particular illustrations that one remembers how all the characters looked and came to life in one's mind. This illustration was prepared for The Wind in the Willows but it was never published. It was given to the present owner on a visit to Shepard's studio in 1933.
