Shortly after his first one-person exhibition in Sydney in February 1922, Wakelin sailed with his wife and son for London, where he would live for the next three years. The first owner of this painting, John Young, arrived in London a few months later and accompanied Wakelin on his first visit to Paris that same year. Young opened the Macquarie Galleries in Sydney in 1925 with an exhibition of Wakelin's work.
