Catalogue Note
From information and family history provided by the current owner, the chair was one from a suite once in the Tuileries Palace, given in the 19th century by Napoleon III to John Tory, a United States government official. Mr. Tory's heirs gave the chair to the owner's great-aunt in the early 20th century and it passed by descent to her in 1975.
