A SÈVRES PORCELAIN DECOEUR VASE NO. 19, CIRCA 1945, designed by Emile Decoeur and decorated by Roger Sivault

the ovoid-shaped vessel with an overall smokey black glaze and parcel-gilt decoration of the labors of Hercules; comprsing The Nemean Lion, The Cerynitian Hind, and The Mares of Diomedes; each scene divided from the other by stars and a zodiac symbol.  Inscribed to base Comp. R. Sivault  with the project number 34.45 and Forme E. Decoeur no. 19 and 12/95; also with printed factory marks.

In generally very good overall condition. Minor rubbing and wear to the gilt decoration as expected. Very minor surface pitting and glaze imperfection that are inherent in the making.

Emile Decoeur was a noted potter and designer before becoming an artistic advisor to Sèvres from 1939 to 1942.  He is most noted for rejecting the florid Art Nouveau style of his early career and pursuing the pure modernist ceramic form which is evidenced by his Decoeur vases for Sèvres with their clean lines and monochromatic glazes.  Roger Sivault was a decorator at Sèvres from 1920 to 1968.
