executed in a variety of silk stitches on a finely woven linen ground; worked with a pious verse above horizontal acorns; signed Ann Jones her work 1772.

Catalogue Note

The Jones family of Phildelphia descended from Owen Jones (born 1711 in Merion Township) and Susan Evans (born 1719 in Merion Township). Their daughter Ann Jones was born in 1758, in Philadelphia. If the present was worked by Ann, she would have been 14 years old at the time.
