Catalogue Note

This is a spectacular figure carved by the preeminent master carver of the carousel industry.  Daniel Muller began carving at Gustav Dentzel's company as a young teenager and was soon having an impact on the styles of the figures coming out of the Dentzel Company.  From 1896 through 1916, Muller took sculpting at night at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia while working in the carousel industry during the day.  His mastery of sculpting is evident in the figures that he carved, from the muscle tones to the intricate detail in the trappings.
