Catalogue Note

The present work is a study for the ten foot high sculpture Sacagawea Monumental Bronze (1980) at the Plains Indian Museum, Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming. Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark's Shoshone guide from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean between 1804 and 1806, was the first dominant female figure in Jackson's work.
