Catalogue Note

The present work depicts the fountain in front of the Saint-Sulpice church in Paris (Fontaine des Orateurs-Sacrés).  It was designed in 1843-48 by Ludovico Visconti (1791-1853).  Robinson probably executed the study during his first trip abroad circa 1876-1879.  The location is not far from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts on rue Bonaparte where he was a student.
