Description
ready with the club held in both hands, on tall strong legs and encased in woven barrel armor, the alert face with large eyes and wearing a woven helmet with double horns; covered in dark reddish brown pigment.
Catalogue Note
Cf. Kan, Meighan and Nicholson (1989:fig. 58a), for a highly similar figure that was part of a couple. While there are distinct local styles of warrior chiefs, the occurance of "...warrior imagery ... speaks of the importance of raiding and small-scale warfare, the rise of powerful chieftains and the importance of tomb sculptures in commemorating military ritual" (Townsend ed. 1998:112).
