BOXER MILNER TJAMPITJIN

Boxer Milner was born at Matwanangu near Sturt Creek in the Tanami Desert and he and his brothers are the traditional custodians of the region. Boxer’s paintings usually depict features of the landscape around the middle and upper reaches of Sturt Creek at different times of the year. Chief among these are the artist’s paintings of the region during the wet season; Sturt Creek in flood, the so-called ‘milk water’ which runs when rain mixes with the clay soils, and the seasonal creeks formed during this time. His imagery often includes rainbows, rain clouds as well as eucalyptus trees. Boxer’s paintings convey the drama of this landscape during the wet. Furthermore, his work encodes both the physical and ancestral knowledge of the land required for survival
