A pair of gilt-bronze-mounted, cream and bardiglio marble cassolettes Louis XVI, late 18th century

Description

  • each 22cm high; 8½in.
each with a domed cover, with a vine leaf and grape finial concealing a candlenozzle, above an ovoid body, on ram’s mask monopodia terminating in hoof feet, joined by a circular stretcher, on a stepped circular base

Condition

Colour of marble slightly less pinkish. The gilding is more golden. The marble is a bit dirty and would benefit from a light clean according to taste and the marble has some minor pitting and scratches as visible from photograph. Some very minor tarnishing to gilt bronze. The chains are missing around the frieze which can easily be replaced. There are a couple of very minor chips, eg. to the bottom edge of one cover and top of body of same one which are not too noticeable as it is where they join the gilt-bands. Grey base of one has a restored break. Some minor restored chips and small chip to grey marble base of other and miniscule chip to bottom edge which is hardly noticeable. Finial of one showing nozzle upturned not gilded and may have been replaced. In overall good condition.
