the case of cartouche form, the cresting with a seated cherub amongst clouds, the 6¼-inch enamel dial signed Ageron A Paris an oval enamel calendar dial below inscribed in Arabic indicating date, day of the week and lunar date, the similarly signed bell striking clock movement with circular flat-bottomed plates, Chevalier de Béthune escapement with silk suspension and numbered outside countwheel, the calendar work driven by the strike train, an hourly released lever leading to the music train below playing one of ten tunes on twelve bells with nineteen hammers, the tune changed automatically, a music/silent lever at the front, the case cast with scrolls, rocaille and foliage, on a rectangular base, the front with a panel of guilloche opening to reveal the musical movement, flanked by fluting, the frieze with Vitruvian scrolls, flanked by rosettes on bun feet; painting refreshed; back cover to dial missing
