The composition of the former, along with another in Schloss Wilhelmshöhe, Kassel (see H. Opperman, J.-B. Oudry, 1686-1755, catalogue to the exhibition at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, Paris, 1 October 1982 - 3 January 1983, Paris 1982, p. 211, reproduced as fig. 114b) may be compared to that in Compiègne, Musée National du Château de Compiègne, inv. no. 589, painted by Oudry in 1732, of Louis XV's dog 'Blanche' hunting a pheasant (op. cit. p. 107, cat. no. 46, reproduced on facing page).
