Catalogue Note

The present work tells the story of the Danish knights looking for Rinaldo on Armida's enchanted island, where they run into the voluptuous beauties placed purposfully in their way by Armida to prevent them from reaching her palace.

The present work is a period copy after Le Moyne's lost original referred to by Jean-Luc Bordeaux in his mongraph on the artist (see J.-L. Bordeaux, François Le Moyne, Neuilly-sur-Seine 1984, p. 103-4, cat. no. P57).  There is a further copy in St. Petersburg, Hermitage Museum.
