Catalogue Note

Born in Montana, Kauffer studied in San Francisco and Paris and came to London in 1914. He became one of the leading artist-designers of the inter-war years and his work, especially that produced for Shell, BP and London Transport, epitomises the British graphic style of the period.

The present work is a design for a larger tapestry.
