coupe ‘Couty,' decorated in gilding and molded in low relief with garlands of fruit on a cobalt ground, inscribed in gilding EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE INTERNATIONALE MDCCCLXXVIII PARIS, red printed Doré à Sèvres 79 circle mark and gree printed S.79 whithin an oval, painter's monogram in gilt inside the cover.

Catalogue Note

Known as the prix de Sèvres, this presentation cup and cover was designed by Edmé Couty. It was presented as an award of excellence to the premier laureate group of decorative arts at the Exposition Universelle de Paris, 1878.
