Catalogue Note

The Val d'Osne foundry was established by Royal ordinance in the town of the same name by J. P. V. AndrĂ© in 1835. The Societe Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux et Fonderies du Val d'Osne later had showrooms in the Boulevards Voltaire and Richard-Lenoir in Paris, with the foundry in the Haute-Marne departement.  The firm was a frequent participant at the Exposition Universelles and received critical acclaim for a large fountain exhibited at the 1851 London Exhibition.
