Catalogue Note

Heinrich Hofmann' s (1824-1911) Christ in the Temple painted in 1871 is in the Riverside Church in New York City. In it, Hofmann depicts a scene from the gospel of Luke in which the young Jesus was found in a temple amongst elders posing questions to each of them, and subsequently astonishing them by his wisdom.
