Catalogue Note

The subject of the present lot is drawn from a marble figural group lacking its heads which formerly decorated the pediment of the Parthenon.  The original is preserved at the British Museum in London.  Clésinger restored this marble and had published bronzes by Ferdinand Barbedienne cast in  three different sizes.
