in the Greek revival style, the circular bronze dial inscribed G. SERVANT BRONZIERS A PARIS / MEDAILLE D' OR 1867 set within a drum shaped case, the movement stamped G*S / Medaille d'or 1867, surmounted by a classical female figure signed H. DUMAIGE raised on a slant-sided base decorated on both sides with a mask of Zeus, on downswept legs ending on paw feet, the amphora-shaped candelabras raised on tripartite support headed by Grecian deities.
Catalogue Note
The fondeur and bronzier G. Servant was recorded at 137, rue Vieille-du-Temple, Paris. He specialized in Greek and Egyptian Revival creations and was a medallist at the major international exhibitions between 1867 and 1887.
The sculptor Etienne-Henri Dumaige (1830-1888) studied under Feuchère and Dumond. He exhibited at the Salon between 1863 and 1886.
