Description

  • height 38 in.; width 6 ft. 7 1/2 in.; depth 32 1/2 in.
  • 96.5 cm; 197 cm; 82.5 cm
surmounted by a D-shaped white marble top, above two drawers inlaid sans traverse, the marquetry panel depicting a nature morte scene, flanked on each side by cherubs emblematic of Bienfaisance and Justice, the rounded sides each fitted with a cupboard door flanked respectively by figures emblematic of Courage, Force, Prudence and Temperence.

Catalogue Note

This commode is a copy of the celebrated model delivered in 1775 by Jean-Henri Riesener to King Louis XV for his private apartments at the Château de Versailles.  It is now in the Musée Condé, Château de Chantilly.
