Catalogue Note
Maison Millet was founded by T. Millet (D. 1906) in 1853 at 11, rue Jacques-Coeur. In 1902, he moved to 23, Boulevard Beaumarchais as his name became more well known. A highly regarded furniture maker, he was described as producing meuble et bronzed d'art, genre ancien et moderne. The company gained several awards in the series of exhibitions in London and Paris, such as the gold medal in the Exposition Universelle of 1889, a Grand Prix in 1900 and three further dipomes d'honeur and four medailles d'or for the furniture they produced. The firm specialized in the Louis XV and XVI styles, though he was acclaimed by his contemporaries for working in his own modern style. In March 1902, he was asked to copy the grand cabinet à bijoux of Marie-Antoinette for the Musée de Versailles.
