Jean-Alexandre-Joseph Falguiere 1831-1900 Diana the Huntress 19th century

Falguiere was often criticized in the press for the extreme realism of his female nudes of which the 'Diana' is a good example.  This model was first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1884 and the sculptor appears to have been looking at Houdon's figures of Diana the Huntress of 1768 and 1778 for inspiration.
