Catalogue Note
During his stay in Scheveningen in 1873, Johannes Bosboom visited the village of Maasland for four days. The present lot was done there and depicts the church of Maasland (the so-called 'Kleine Maasland'). It can be compared to an oil painting of the same subject, now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (formerly collection Westerwoudt, Haarlem). Compare for the oil version: C.H. Dinkelaar, D.L. Kaatman, Johannes Bosboom (1817-1891). Schilder van licht, schaduw en kleur, Laren 1999, cat.no. KN 10-1 on p. 140.
