Exhibited

The present lot was executed in 1890-1891 when Van Rappard worked in the Préviniaire cotton-dyeing plant in Haarlem. In his paintings of individual workman the artist focusses his attention on expressive, simple forms. It is one of the rare examples in this series that stayed in private hands. It can be compared to a similar version in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller, Otterlo (inv.no. 621).
