Catalogue Note
Drouot was a pupil of Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. He began exhibiting regularly at the Salon in 1889. His vast oeuvre covered a large variety of themes including the allegorical, mythological and oriental.
Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth, was the daughter of Zeus and Hera and hand-maiden to the gods. In her role as cup-bearer she offered nectar and ambrosia, and here she holds the cup before the eagle, Zeus' messenger.
