Catalogue Note

Garvens is chiefly remembered as a political satirist and illustrator for the magazine Kladderadatsch during the 1920's but prior to the First World War he was a sculptor who exhibited in Berlin in 1909. The angular features in the present depiction of Don Quixote are also typical of his graphic œuvre.
