Donato Barcaglia Italian, 1849-1930

An early work, Barcaglia showed his Amore Accieca (a version without drapery) at the 1875 Esposizione Fiorentina, where it won the gran medaglia d'oro. The warm reception it received resulted in his sending to the International Exhibition in Philadelphia the following year, two groups entitled Soap Ball and Fleeting Time which were equally well received. Another example of the present lot was sold by Sotheby's New York, 23rd May 1996, lot 266.
