Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter arrived in Tunisia on Christmas Day 1904 and remained there until 5th April 1905. According to Vivian Endicott Barnett, approximately thirty of Kandinsky's temperas and gouaches have Tunisian scenes as their subject matter.
