Catalogue Note
It is likely that the present watercolour dates from Muller's trip to France in 1840. He had been comissioned to produce illustrations for a volume of historical lithographs, which eventually formed the book Muller's Sketches of the Ages of Francis 1st. He arrived in Paris on 17th June and stayed there for a month before visiting all the great chateaux on the Loire. During this trip, whilst gathering material for his book he also produced a number of landscapes and studies such as the present work
