Catalogue Note

On 22nd January 1902 Goodwin left the Isle of Wight for Barbados accompanied by his daughter, Edytha.  He travelled aboard the W.I.M.S.Trent as a guest of his good friend Arthur McConnell.  Arriving at their destination on 2nd February, the Goodwins parted with McConnell and boarded the R.M.S.Eden, journeying to St.Vincent, Granada and Trinidad.  Despite expressing some initial disappointment at his discoveries in the Tropics, Goodwin nevertheless found the exotic colours and wildlife to be a wonderful source of inspiration, and sketched ceaslessly during his visit.  He returned to the West Indies once more in 1912
