Catalogue Note

John White Abbott's watercolour depicts a view of a stone bridge in Buckland, a hamlet three and a half miles west of Kingsbridge in south Devon.

John White Abbott was born in Exeter and practised as an apothecary and surgeon there. He never travelled abroad and appears to have made only a few trips outside Devonshire and the surrounding counties (for watercolours drawn during his trip to Scotland in 1791 see lots 251 & 252)
