Catalogue Note

Gondolo & Labouriau, based in Rio de Janeiro, became one of the most internationally important retailers for Patek Philippe by the end of the 19th Century and the first quarter of the 20th Century.

After producing oversized pocket watches for the firm, Patek Philippe made many different shaped wristwatches for Gondolo beginning at the turn of the century.

The most recognizable examples were jumbo curved rectangular wristwatches, cushion-shaped wristwatches and, as in the present example, round officers' wristwatches.

The modern-day Patek Philippe production features a line of watches known as 'Gondolo.'
