Catalogue Note
Brett spent the summer of 1879 at Penally, a couple of miles to the south of Tenby. He painted this sketch from a boat, on a day which he described as "A short series of calms with haze." While he sketched "two urchins who belonged to the boat fished" (Brett's diary for 1879). The view is of Monkstone Point from Saundersfoot Bay looking southwards, with Tenby Roads beyond, and the limestone mass of Proud Giltar in the distance on the right.
